  • The Panhandle Trail was recently featured in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and in the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

  • Volunteers from the Collier Friends of the Panhandle Trail and the Pennsylvania Conservation Corps sent several days during the week of April 19th making major upgrades to the trail. As a result of everyone's hard work, the following was accomplished:
  • A new trail surface
  • A permanent, natural looking stage at the Quarry
  • A paved surface and apron at the Quarry pavilion
  • A 150-foot painted privacy fence around the storage trailer
  • New shelves in the trailer
  • New painted gates throughout the trail in Collier
  • Kiosk and bridge repair
  • Installation of drainage pipe to make easier access to the trail system on Chartiers Conservation property
  • Brush and path cleared across the pedestrian bridge near the Sunnyside entrance to about half way to Fossils Cliff. (If it hadn’t been so rainy and cold for two or the three days, the entire way would have been cleared.)
  • And finally, about 30-35 people were fed everyday!

All of these major upgrades would not have been possible without our donors and volunteers.
