The Collier Friends of the Panhandle Trail salute those Collier

Collier, but who volunteer here.
Help us honor those who volunteer.
May 2008
- Thanks to all of the vendors, organizations and participants for
braving the high temperatures and attending Panhandle Tails Day III
March 2008
- Welcome to the newly redesigned Collier Friends of the Panhandle
Trail website. Please let us know what you think of it.
November 2007
- The Allegheny County Department of Public Works has
issued a notice to proceed with $20,000 in stream bank protection in three
places along the Panhandle Trail. The sites are at the bridge approaches
in Walkers Mill and Gregg Station, as well as a small area near Sunnyside
Avenue.
- The Panhandle Trail has received $23,000 in Regional
Asset District funding that will be used for drainage improvements, ditch
remediation, cleaning out a culvert pipe on Noblestown Road, and putting
in rock lining to reduce erosion behind the old dog food plant in Oakdale
(outside the Collier Portion of the Panhandle Trail).
April 2006 -
The Panhandle/Collier Pedestrian Bridge is now
officially opened. This bridge across Robinson Run near the Rennerdale
entrance to the Trail is the result of a $41,000 grant given to Collier
Township by the PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
The bridge leads directly to a network of hiking trails on the Chartiers
Nature Conservancy property and more challenging woods and primitive
paths on Collier Township-owned property. We hope everyone will enjoy
the wild flowers and the fun of blazing their own trail on this
beautiful hillside.
